This Mulled Cider is the perfect warm drink for any holiday celebration or just a quiet night in. It can be enjoyed on it’s own, or spiked with liquor for a festive and warm adult beverage. It’s easy and quick to make in the slow cooker with a few simple ingredients. Not to mention, it will make your whole house smell amazing!
This recipe starts with a bottle of store bought apple cider. Yup! It’s that easy. The spices and fruit will infuse the cider while it slowly warms up in the slow cooker. Just slice up your apple, orange, and ginger, drop in the cinnamon sticks and star anise pods, and you’re on the way to the most perfect warm holiday drink.
This Mulled Cider is delicious on it’s own, but if you want to kick it up a notch, you can add a splash of bourbon or rum for a spiked cider that will be sure to warm you up from the inside out. Leave the alcohol until you pour out your individual servings so you can share the plain cider with the kiddos! Something for everyone!
This recipe is great if you want to contribute something for your holiday feast but cooking is not your forte 😉 It is equal parts foolproof and impressive!
Wishing you a safe and happy holiday season, from my kitchen to yours.
Slow Cooker Mulled Apple Cider
Ingredients
- Half Gallon Store-Bought Apple Cider
- 1 Apple
- 1 Orange
- 1 Inch Fresh Ginger
- 2 Cinnamon Sticks
- 2 Star Anise Pods
- 1/2 Cup Fresh Cranberries
Instructions
- Slice the apple crosswise (through the core) as thinly as possible. Remove/discard any seeds but keep the star-shaped core in tact. Thinly slice the orange and the fresh ginger (you can leave the skin on the ginger).
- Add the apple cider to the slow cooker along with the sliced apple, orange, ginger, whole cinnamon sticks, and star anise pods. Cook on low for at least 2.5 hours to let the flavors infuse into the cider.
- Add the fresh cranberries and cook another 30 minutes before serving. If you add the cranberries too early they will burst and lose some of their color (this is totally fine but not as pretty!)
- Serve hot, garnished with mulled fruit.
Notes
Optional: Add a splash of Bourbon or Rum to your mug of hot cider for a boozy treat.
If doubling the recipe, you can still use 1 apple and 1 orange, but increase your other ingredients accordingly.
