Homemade Air Fryer Chicken Taquitos

Jump to recipe

Chicken Taquitos are a favorite game-day snack in my house. I wanted to make my own that had a little bit better ingredients list and wasn’t deep fried. Enter my homemade version that I make in the air fryer! They get super crispy on the outside with just a tiny bit of oil and NO deep frying! Best part is they are super easy and quick to make. Now I wouldn’t call them health food, but they are definitely a lightened-up version and something you should definitely add to your super bowl menu!

My homemade air fryer chicken taquitos start with a super easy filling of pre-cooked chicken, salsa, sour cream, black beans, shredded cheese, and a sprinkle of taco seasoning. You just mix it all up in one bowl, fill and roll the tortillas until you have a stack of delicious taquitos ready to go into the air fryer! Once the filling heats up inside the taquito, the cheese melts and you are left with something gooey on the inside and crispy on the outside. What could be better?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again! You! Need! An! Air! Fryer! It is the best kitchen gadget and my secret weapon to getting the crispiest foods super quickly with little oil. Mine has a permanent residence on my counter and I use it for damn near everything.

My air fryer is the Instant Vortex 4-in-1 6 Quart model. When I used 8″ flour tortillas, I was able to fit 6 taquitos at a time. Place them seam-side down in the air fryer – they can be touching slightly, but you don’t want to stack them because they won’t get crispy all the way around. It’s definitely worth working in batches to get optimal results (they only take 5 minutes to cook so it’s still a pretty quick process). Give them a quick spray with a little cooking oil (I prefer avocado oil spray but use what you’ve got) which will help them get perfectly golden brown and crispy on the outside. I don’t bother flipping them because the air fryer distributes the heat all around the food, allowing it to get nice and crisp.

Then all that’s left is to top them or dip them in whatever you like – sour cream, salsa, guacamole, scallions, jalapenos, the list goes on! Make a double batch if you are feeding a crowd! You won’t be disappointed.
